BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This job is typical of any requirement to strip a coating and the process is the same regardless of the substrate. It is also my preferred process when removing lead based paint.

The objective is to remove a failed coating from slate pavers on behalf of Dulux. The coating should have been clear but had gone cloudy.

My role was to restore the pavers to their original state.

SCOPE OF WORK

A path of slate tiles leading from the gate to the front door and a couple of tiles under a park bench needed stripping back to the natural slate surface.

It was important to ensure the surrounding lawn was not damaged in the process of removing the failed coating. The coating was tested with various options from the Dumond range. After testing we used the Dumond Smart Strip advanced paint remover as the most effective product.

It is safe for the user, the substrate, and the environment. This product is eco-friendly globe100% biodegradable, water-based, and odor-free paint stripper that is extremely effective in removing multiple layers of architectural and industrial coatings from virtually all interior and exterior surfaces.

The process is to apply Dumond Smart Strip liberally to the surface and cover to prevent it drying out. In this case we left the product to work for 24 hrs.

Next day it is simply a case of progressively removing the cover, scrapping off the residue, giving the residue a good scrub and then washing down – in this case with a power wash. The results are a slate tile path as good as new.
